Today we finished
our transfer of energy lesson
by having a slider car contest. Students used data from their data
tables to achieve random distances. We then explored the concept of
newtons as a unit of force. We practiced using spring scales to measure
the force it takes to move an object. Next we explored vectors to
identify the magnitude and direction of a force. Students used ping pong
balls and squeeze bottles to use air pressure to move the ping pong
balls through a maze. In the afternoon we learned the difference between
speed and acceleration. We used our physic stations with two meter
ramps and bubble tubes. We started our investigation of simple machines
and mechanical advantage. We focused our explorations using pulleys.
Finally, we concluded our day by taking a field trip to the linac
accelerator.
